With a harsh Delmarva winter, are you ready for spring?

SALISBURY, Md. — It’s been a harsh winter here on Delmarva, with the recent blizzard and frigid conditions. But with warmer weather approaching, locals are already talking about the upcoming spring.

Amy Zaprowski, a Salisbury local, said, “I’m super excited to see the sun. Yesterday was a pretty dreary day, so I had to get out, and I wanted to come downtown and take a little walk and see some people.”

The recent cold spell brought temperatures to a low not seen this year, leaving the shore shivering through an exceptionally harsh winter.

Another local, Harlyn Myers, said, “Especially with the snow and rain these past few days, it’s felt pretty gloomy. I’m looking forward to summer and continuing this kind of weather.”

For some, the weather mood swings aren’t unusual for the peninsula.

Amber, a Salisbury resident, said, “Yeah, because right now it’s depressing and sad. The weather is bipolar, so when that comes around, we can be out until like 9 p.m. walking the dogs or just being outside.”

The sun returned this afternoon, offering a brief taste of warmer days to come.

“Oh, my gosh, yeah, I’m over it. I’m ready for the beach. I know that’s a while off, but that’s where my mind is,” Zaprowski said.

Myers added, “I love it. Compared to the past two days, it’s been miles better than what we’ve had, so I’ll take it.”

With the arrival of spring on March 20, locals are getting excited.

Derek Jarmon, from the City of Salisbury’s business development department, said, “This weather is beautiful. To be able to come out here and stroll downtown Salisbury without having to wear a heavy jacket or sweatshirt is just wonderful.”

Zaprowski also shared her excitement: “Spring is an amazing time of year. I love to see all the flowers bloom, and all the little bugs, critters, and bunnies come out. So, I’m just excited.”

As a reminder, clocks will move forward one hour this Sunday for daylight saving time.
