UPDATE: Wicomico Deputy Injured in Motorcycle Accident Discharged

UPDATE: Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis shared new details about the deputy injured on Tuesday afternoon.

At the time of the accident on Mar. 10, first responders from the Hebron and Mardela Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene to provided care to the deputy before preparing him for transport the University of Maryland R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Sheriff Lewis and law enforcement officers traveled to Baltimore to support the injured deputy and his family.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Maryland State Police, the Delaware State Police aviation team, our fellow law enforcement partners, and the dozens of sheriff’s deputies, firefighters, EMS personnel, and concerned civilians who immediately stepped up when the call for help went out,” Sheriff Lewis said on social media. “Your willingness to respond without hesitation reflects the very best of our community and the brotherhood and sisterhood of public safety.”

The deputy was reportedly discharged and had returned to home by end of day Tuesday.

 

HEBRON, Md. – A deputy with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) was injured in a collision with a motorcycle that occurred Tuesday afternoon.

On Mar. 10 at 1:14 p.m., a deputy was on routine patrol when he was involved in a single vehicle motorcycle collision on Ocean Gateway near Old Railroad Road. The WCSO Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to investigate the collision, with assistance by the Maryland State Police Crash Team.

Following the collision, both sides of Ocean Gateway were closed temporarily to allow the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit to airlift the injured deputy to Shock Trauma for non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation into this incident is active at this time.
