UPDATE: DSP Arrest Millsboro Man for Killing Elderly Family Member

UPDATE: The Delaware State Police have arrested a Millsboro man for first degree murder following a death investigation that began Thursday afternoon.

Police have arrested 40-year-old John Sulecki after they say he killed an elderly family member. He is also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Sulecki was arraigned and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $1,060,000 cash bond.

At 12:10 p.m. on Mar. 19, troopers responded to a residence on White Pine Drive after a third-party family member ran from the residence to call 911. The family member reported that Sulecki had a gun and had shot a 72-year-old female relative during an argument. When troopers arrived, the took Sulecki into custody without incident. The victim was found in the house with a suspected gunshot wound and pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

Detectives’ investigation revealed that Sulecki and the victim were involved in an argument, and while in a back room of the house, he shot her.

MILLSBORO, Del. – The Delaware State Police are conducting a death investigation within The Pines at Long Neck community in Millsboro.

In a message posted to social media at 2:54 p.m., the department said they were at currently on-scene of the investigation. The scene remains active at this time, but there is no threat to public safety.

Officers ask individuals to avoid the area as parts of White Pine Drive are closed. Residents should expect an increased police presence in the area.
