Stevensville Man Arrested on Drug, Firearm Charges after Traffic Stop in School Zone
STEVENSVILLE, Md. – The Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff has arrested a man on drug and firearm charges after conducting a traffic stop on his vehicle in a school zone.
Deputies arrested 61-year-old James Brown of Stevensville on charges of possessing a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) with intent to distribute near a school, firearm use in a felony, and related drug and traffic charges.
At 9:55 a.m. on Feb. 24, Deputy First Class (DFC) Schultz was in the area of Route 8 and Camp Wright Lane when he observed a car traveling at 56 miles per hour in a 40 miles per hour zone. DFC Schultz subsequently followed the vehicle and and initiated a traffic stop of Route 8 near the Matapeake School Complex. He made contact with the driver, later identified as Brown, and observed the windows to be heavily tinted. DFC Schultz conducted a tint meter test, returning a reading of 15.
A K9 Team was requested to respond to the scene to conduct a scan of the vehicle. The K9 indicated a positive alert, an a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted by deputies. DFC Kendall located a loaded semi-automatic handgun in the center console. During a search of Brown’s person, officers located 88 Oxycodone pills in a clear plastic baggie, as well as CDS paraphernalia. He was placed under arrest and taken into custody.
