Ocean City’s boardwalk is opening back up as temperatures rise

OCEAN CITY, Md. As warmer weather rolls in, the Ocean City Boardwalk is reopening, and residents and visitors say the city is coming back to life for the summer.

A telltale sign in Ocean City is when boardwalk businesses start reopening, and locals are excited for the season to begin.

Nora Suer, a young visitor on the boardwalk, said, “It’s fun, like, going in the water and stuff because back home there’s, like, not the ocean and stuff.” Her brother, Harrison Suer, added, “It’s fun because you get to go in the stores and buy stuff.”

With temperatures reaching the high 70s, Ocean City has blossomed back into the beach town Marylanders know and love. The Suer family, visiting from Baltimore, enjoyed their time in the sun.

Their mother, Katie Suer, said, “We got very lucky with the weather. We’re going to grab some Thrasher’s and head out onto the beach in a little bit and just take in the view, hear the ocean waves, and enjoy being together.”

Another family, long-time visitors to the boardwalk, shared their observations. Milton Shrader said, “It is not overcrowded. I mean, everything is not open yet, but they’re working on it. I’ve heard that they’re having some trouble with help this year. And this is the first time I’m ever seeing that.”

For local shop North Pole Funnel Cakes, owner Teoman Aksu said he’s ready to be back. “This is my fourth day. I opened back, but I wasn’t expecting this many people so far. It’s going to be a good summer. I feel it in my bones,” he said.

Aksu added that the boardwalk improves every year and he’s ready to serve up all sorts of delicacies.

Jane Erose and her husband enjoyed their stroll on the boardwalk. “We’re thinking about funnel cake too. So we’re just going to skip lunch today. We’re going to be little kids and eat junk food,” she said.

Harrison Suer had his eye on another treat. “What I like about Ocean City is Candy Kitchen because I like to eat candy,” he said.

Places like Rita’s Italian Ice are set to open Thursday, and Trimper Rides will be back in operation Saturday.
