Hurlock Pushing for New Youth Football Program
(HURLOCK, Md) – The North Dorchester County community is making room for new programs to help get local kids active.
Hurlock Mayor Earl Murphy wants to bring a youth football and cheer program to the North Dorchester County community through a group called Elite Youth Sports. Something that’s been in the works for over a year.
Mayor Murphy tells WMDT, “So there’s a lot of benefits. So we’re going to look further into we’re going to look at some details as well. But to see this opportunity available and utilizing a space is underdeveloped. Now, why not look at every opportunity to promote the youth sports program here in Hurlock.”
Elite Youth Sports is run by Darrell Hurston, and Darrell wants the youth football program to be about more than the gridiron.
He says, “It was it was important for us to bring, this program to Hurlock. Because our program is more than just about playing football. It’s also about community engagement.”
A similar program is taking place in Cambridge, and Elite Youth Sports wants to offer the same opportunities not just for being active, but to help the kids grow.
“That’s one of our main goals. That was one of our main goals from the beginning is to, enrich the children’s lives, help them grow, as a person…” says Darrell.
And Mayor Murphy is excited over being able to bring these opportunities to North Dorchester kids.
“I love the fact that they are wanting to bring more opportunity to the youth of Hurlock, and this is one way that we can help them,” says Mayor Murphy.
Plans regarding the youth football and cheer program are being discussed during Monday night’s Town Council meeting in Hurlock.
