BRIDGEVILLE, Del. — A beloved hardware store is closing after over a century of business.

H.C. Layton’s Hardware Store in Bridgeville was founded in 1898 and has been passed down three generations.

On Saturday, they’re hosting a closeout sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by a happy hour at Jeff’s Tap Room in honor of Michael Layton, the former owner of the store who passed way in December.

Michael’s daughter Anne says the store was a staple in the community. “I feel like it was a really cherished place in the community. People were really sad to see it go, as are we. I’d be remiss not to encourage people to shop small businesses and support small businesses in the community.”

H.C. Layton Hardware is located at 406 Market Street, Bridgeville Delaware.
