Felton House Fire Kills Two; Marshals Investigating
FELTON, Del. – The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a deadly house fire that claimed the lives of two women last week.
Around 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 19, crews with the Felton and Camden-Wyoming Fire Companies, as well as the Hartly and Marydel Volunteer Fire Companies, responded to the 800 block of Willow Grove Road. Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters found a single-family dwelling structure with heavy fire and smoke showing.
The structure was determined to be occupied at the time of the fire. Crews were able to make access into the burning structure and remove an unresponsive female victim. Firefighters and Emergency Medical Services personnel immediately started life saving measures, but were unable to successfully revive the woman. A second female victim was found deceased within the structure. The deceased have been turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science’s Medical Examiner Unit for identification and cause of death.
Delaware Deputy State Fire Marshals responded to the scene to conduct an origin and cause investigation. At this time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage to the structure and its contents is estimated at $150,000. There were no other reported injuries.
