Discover Delmarva: Alley Oops
OCEAN CITY, Md- Alley Oops Midtown in Ocean City offers food, games, bowling, and most importantly, all for a generous price. We met up with Davey Warfield and Jeremy Blackford, who dove into some of the fun with us. Warfield tells us, “It’s a one-stop family fun shop here. We’ve got some great food, awesome drinks, and entertainment to keep the kids busy.”
From when you first walk in, the shark tank greets you and their expansive bar and restaurant space. But one of my favorite things to do is play arcade games. Warfield told me not to worry, “A lot of variety here. We’ve got racing games, we’ve got basketball for the sports, the dark ride- there’s a virtual reality ride. It’s amazing, you go in, it’s a five-minute experience.” We started with some Mario Kart, and it’s much more immersive than something you hold in your hand. The fight for the steering wheel- plus the thrill of the Mario Kart mystery boxes that can alter the race each roll. Timing it out just right, I took home the victory- I knew all that time playing Mario Kart would pay off someday with my job!
One of their standout attractions, their dark ride, has added some new games to the menu this year. Excited to try their new game, Blackford gave me some insight on what to expect. “That’s like being on a roller coaster without having to be on a roller coaster. You know you get to shoot some stuff, it’s a dark ride, it’s 3D, it’s all encompassing.” You feel the movement on your body when in reality you’re not moving at all! The sensation of flying around is felt throughout your body just sitting in a chair as the characters dart off the screen towards you.
If you’re looking for something more tame, they have plenty of options, like their duckpin bowling. Blackford says this is a great experience for people of all ages. “The kids don’t have to worry about carrying that big bowling ball. They got the little handheld one, and they have a good time. There’s a lot of family fun here.”
