DC Woman Arrested for Identity Theft in Rehoboth Beach
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – The Rehoboth Beach Police Department (RBPD) charged a woman from Washington D.C. with identity theft on Saturday evening.
On Mar. 14, police arrested 43-year-old Shataya R. Kennedy and also charged her with unlawful use of a credit card, criminal impersonation, and related charges. Following her arrest, police discovered that Kennedy had active warrants in three other states. She was committed to Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in lieu of $8,000 secured bond.
At 5:48 p.m., RBPD received a report of an identity theft that may be actively occurring in city limits. Officers responded to the area of Christian Street where Kennedy allegedly attempted to use a victim’s credit card to rent a room.
An investigation determined that Kennedy had been able to rent a room using a second victim’s credit card, checking in under the false name “Monique Carter”. Kennedy was contacted in her room by police, and provided the false name to officers. Officers determined her true identity before taking her into custody without incident.
