Cambridge Police Arrest 15-Year-Old after Foot Pursuit

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – The Cambridge Police Department arrested a 15-year-old after attempting to conduct the traffic stop in the early hours of Thursday morning.

At 2:17 a.m. on Mar. 5, officers attempted to pull over a vehicle in the 600 bl9ock of Greenwood Avenue after observing it traveling without lit headlights. The vehicle quickly pulled into an apartment complex where multiple subjects exited and fled from the vehicle.

Officers observed a passenger exiting the vehicle holding a handgun, and began to pursue him on foot to 500 block of Greenwood Ave where he was placed under arrest. During the pursuit, the suspect, later identified as a 15-year-old from Hurlock, threw a loaded .40 caliber Smith & Wesson on the ground. Officers recovered the weapon, in addition to an undisclosed quantity of cannabis for distribution.

During the foot pursuit, the other offenders returned to the vehicle and left the area prior to other officers arriving. The 15-year-old was transported to CPD for processing and later turned over to the Department of Juvenile Services in Salisbury. The juvenile was charged with assorted gun and drug crimes.
