19-Year-Old EMT Arrested for Assaulting One-Month-Old Infant Son

Talbot County Sheriff Department

WITTMAN, Md. – The Talbot County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) has announced charges against an emergency medical technician (EMT) in connection with physical abuse of his one-month-old child.

Deputies have arrested 19-year-old Geovanni J. Greaves of Wittman on charges including first and second degree child abuse, first and second degree assault, and reckless endangerment.

On Mar. 18, deputies with the TCSO Criminal Investigations Division began a child abuse investigation after a pediatrician’s office reported seeing a one-month-old infant with suspicious injuries on the same day. Doctors from University of Maryland Shore Medical Center and Johns Hopkins Hospital determined the injuries were suspected to be from non-accidental trauma.

Investigators learned Greaves, who is employed as an EMT with the Talbot County government, is the biological father of the infant. Investigators reportedly conducted dozens of interviews, reviewed electronic data and developed a timeline ultimately identifying Greaves as the person responsible for the baby’s injuries. A warrant for Greaves arrest was obtained on Tuesday, Mar. 24. He was taken into custody without incident.

According to court documents obtained by WMDT, Greaves was denied bail in a preliminary bond review held Wednesday. He is currently being held without bond at the Talbot County Detention Center. A preliminary hearing for this case is scheduled for Monday, Apr. 20, at 1:30 p.m. in the Talbot County District Court.

Anyone with additional information about this case is asked to contact Deputy First Class Tracy Kilgore at (410) 822‐1020, or through email at tkilgore@talbotcountymd.gov.
