Teachers Who Make a Difference: Hurlock Pre-K3 teacher educates with sparkle

HURLOCK, Md. — Teacher Who Makes a Difference, sponsored by Pam Price and Associates, is a way for locals to honor and celebrate educators who work tirelessly to shape the next generation of students. This teacher is impacting young minds.

Mrs. Brinsfield was nominated because, “We’re nominating this teacher because I have seen firsthand that she will stay late to help with events and after-school programs. The kids absolutely love her. She works extra hard and is always thinking of creative things to do with her students to teach them new things.”

In response to the award, Mrs. Brinsfield said, “I am very surprised. I was shocked. I wasn’t sure what was going on when you guys walked in with the camera, and it’s not something you see every day in the classroom anyway.”

With 10 years under her belt, Mrs. Brinsfield, a pre-K 3 teacher, said she had a teacher who inspired her to make a difference in the profession.

“Growing up, I had a teacher who was absolutely amazing and went above and beyond for everything. Miss Jeanie Rose was one of the reasons I wanted to become a teacher — just watching her and seeing how well she was as a teacher with the kids and her love for it,” said Mrs. Brinsfield.

Her unique teaching style blends creativity, giving kids the opportunity to learn hands-on in memorable ways.

“Today we have the tooth fairy coming in, but we also do things like making models of teeth using marshmallows. I also do 4-H, and we’re going to be hatching chicks next month,” she said.

Through the fun of teaching, she advises students and teachers to always have a backup plan and be ready to think on their feet.
