Somerset County Holds Tourism Summit

(CRISFIELD, Md) – From Princess Anne to Smith Island, business owners are coming together for Somerset County’s annual tourism summit, with the goal this year of countywide partnerships to drive up tourism numbers.

Dozens of business owners discussed plans during the summit, with the theme: “The Power of Partnership”.

And in a county as large as Somerset, that connection means a little more.

“It’s really refreshing to see the amount of businesses here and the amount of already established partnerships that are here with the business-to-business community, but also the community events like, the Tangier Sound Music Festival…” says Recreation, Parks & Tourism’s Adam Riggin.

We got a chance to speak with one local business owner from Smith Island about the need for that partnership across the county. As well as how this can benefit Smith Island’s push to become a tourist destination in Somerset.

Everett Landon, who owns Experience Smith Island says, “It is difficult getting people over there because you have to cross a body of water, and that’s why, you know, businesses like mine and other, a few other tour businesses that takes people over is instrumental.”

In addition to working with local businesses to attract more tourists to the Lower Shore, those in attendance are also suggesting to use the natural assets of Somerset County to their advantage.

“This is one of the top places that I like to paddle in all of Delmarva. I think there are some incredible sights to see,” says Recreation Specialist, Laura Scharle.

And county leadership is hoping more people across Somerset will join the push for tourism dollars.

Adam tells WMDT, “Somerset County is on the right track. And we’re always looking for more partnerships here inside the county.”

Somerset County Tourism is encouraging any local businesses looking to be a part of their plan for 2026 to give them a call at (410)-651-4980.
