CAMBRIDGE, Md. – The Rescue Fire Company responded to a serious carbon monoxide (CO) exposure on Sunday.

Volunteers were dispatched after a caller reported being in phone contact with the occupants of a residence on the 900 block of Pine Street. During their communications, the caller began to believe something was wrong.

Crews arrived on the scene and immediately advised responding units of extremely high CO levels inside the residence and two critically ill occupants. The subjects were removed from the home and immediately treated by providers on scene. One occupant was ultimately flown to Baltimore in critical condition, while a second occupant was transported locally for further medical care.

As additional units arrived, crews began investigating and ventilating the residence. During the investigation, a charcoal grill and a gas-powered generator were located operating inside the home.

Three first responders were also transported, treated, and released from a local medical facility.

The Rescue Fire Company would like to remind residents to install CO detectors on every level of your home and near sleeping areas, and never operate generators or grills indoors. Further, if an alarm sounds, or you begin to feel dizzy, nauseous, or have a headache, get outside immediately and call 911.
