ICE Agent Struck in Hit-and-Run; Wicomico Sheriff Investigating
SALISBURY, Md. – The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) is investigating a hit-and-run incident involving a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent that occurred on Tuesday morning.
At 6:48 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the area of Pemberton Drive and Diamondback Drive after receiving a report that an ICE agent was struck by a passing motor vehicle. Deputies determined the agent was assisting with traffic direction around the scene when he was struck. The driver of the vehicle left the area without attempting to contact agents on the scene.
All agents on the scene were reportedly wearing clothing and/or equipment that clearly identified them as law enforcement officers. Officials have determined there is no evidence at this time to indicate the agent was struck due to their employment with ICE. There is no known threat to the public or other ICE agents as it relates to this incident.
The injured agent was treated at a local hospital for non-life threating injuries and later released. A suspect has been identified at this time, but their identity is being withheld as the matter is still under investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Detective Oakley of the WCSO Criminal Investigation Division at 410-548-4891.
