Fire in Nanticoke Displaces One, Kills Four Pets

NANTICOKE, Md. — Three dogs and one cat have died following a house fire in Wicomico County.

Saturday afternoon, the West Side Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding departments responded to 2570 Hickman Lane in Nanticoke for reports of a structure fire. Fire officials say a passerby called 911 just before 2 p.m. on Feb. 7.

The fire was battled by 46 firefighters for 1.5 before it was brought under control. Deputy State Fire Marshals from the Lower Eastern Shore Regional Office determined the fire was accidental and originated at the exterior water pump attached to the home.

The estimated damages to the home were $145,000, and $40,000 to the contents. The two-story home is a total loss.

One occupant was displaced and is being assisted by family members.
