Discover Delmarva Arts: Gazillion Bubbles Show

SALISBURY, Md. — Melody Yang and her family have been creating bubble magic for over 20 years. In their show, Gazillion Bubbles, the group transforms ordinary soap bubbles into extraordinary scenes that transport audiences back to childhood.

“It’s a show all about bubbles. Bubbles in all different shapes, sizes, and colors… We make square bubbles, smoke bubbles… We also have storytelling, and there’s a lot of science behind it, because even the solution we use — it’s a special type of solution that my father created,” Yang said.

This isn’t a show you just sit and watch — the audience becomes part of the performance, proving the magic isn’t just for kids. “It’s a show not just for kids because I think with bubbles, everyone is always kind of mesmerized… The audience being involved with the show is actually what makes the show. It’s a different version where people get to be a part of it, and it resonates with people because when they see other families on the stage they also think about themselves. Everyone’s enjoying together and that’s the atmosphere we build in the show.”

While the show feels like magic, there’s science behind every bubble. “To be able to create this form of art, you have to understand the physics, the surface tension of the bubble, the ingredients being used, plus the environment.”

As bubbles fill the venue, the finale becomes less about the performance and more about the moments families will remember long after the bubbles burst. “We fill the entire venue with bubbles, so it’s not just bubbles on the stage; it’s bubbles in every seat you sit in… I think that’s the beauty of the show — being able to create something that keeps the kids engaged and to see the parents’ reactions as they watch their kids.”

The Gazillion Bubble Show will be performing at the Wicomico Civic Center on Feb. 15 at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. To purchase tickets, visit www.WicomicoCivicCenter.org.
