Delmarva Power Meets with Customers Over High Energy Bills
(GEORGETOWN, Del) – Delmarva Power is trying to lend a hand after plenty of people across Delaware, like Tykera Johnson-Evans, who says her bills have been steadily increasing over the last couple of years.
With January’s extreme weather pushing it up over 700 dollars.
She tells WMDT, “…700 plus, to be exact. And it’s not even my electric bill. It’s the delivery and supply. That’s more than my electric bill.”
“It’s been really cold, and I’m setting the heat a little bit higher, the thermostat a little higher, just stay warm. So, you know, you got to do what you got to do,” says Ron Stitely of Georgetown, whose on a fixed income with his wife.
That’s why Delmarva Power is offering assistance to people in Lower Delaware, to help them find an immediate solution.
One Regional President, Marcus Beal walked us through.
“But we do recognize the pressure on our customers. So we have this, customer relief fund. We started last year partnering with the Energize Delaware. Customers to receive up to 300 to $500 credit on their bill,” says Beal.
For others, they’re feeling the pain from the latest extreme winter weather not just in their homes, but their businesses as well.
People like Yashin Fjaco of Millsboro, who says, “I’m struggling with the hours I’m working. I struggle to bring food home, and everything went up. I would like to, like, have more programs like this. Try to help. Like, every time.”
Beal says that it’s important to be on the ground and help people with their ever increasing bills. He says Delmarva Power is looking to work with people at the state level in order to find a more long term solution.
