DELMAR, Md. – The Delmar Fire Department responded to a structure fire that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

At 4:09 a.m. on Feb. 10, crews responded to a detached garage on East Pine Street for a fire. For 30 minutes, 25 firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. The total damage to the structure and its contents is estimated to be valued at $40,000.

The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal determined the fire to be accidental in nature. Officials determined the fire originated on the exterior of the garage, and was caused by a heat lamp used for a chicken coop igniting nearby combustibles.
