Charlie Paparella on Frozen Waterways

DELMARVA – In this week’s edition of Back on the Road with Charlie Paparella, brought to you by Furniture & More Gone Coastal, Charlie reflects on the lingering effects of last month’s snow storm.

Charlie says he respects the determination of these frozen water molecules as he files this report on the current state of our plucky waterways.

Our most recent , and long-lived, winter storm has left its mark up and down our sacred landscape.
Leaving shards of ice like broken dinner plates,
Stretched across an endless shoreline.
And docks look like elephants stuck in mud.
Accustomed as we are to temperate weather…
It’s a shock to see our countryside locked in fields of ice.
But Mother Nature always tempers her harsh ways with humor…
Creating objects of art meant to add levity to the frozen landscape.
This one is clearly meant to represent an iceman resting on an ice chez lounge, his ice hands behind his head…
With two ice bowls filled with snow which he will serve to his guests when they arrive.
While open channels reveal the speed at which the river is flowing below in spite of its still appearance.
Those channels provide an opportunity for web-footed creatures to warm up a bit on the warmer water below the ice.
While countless geese undertake thousand mile journeys with only their senses to guide them.”
