Cambridge police arrest two teens following vehicle theft, chase

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – The Cambridge Police Department arrested two teenagers following a vehicle theft and police chase.

On Feb. 18, officers responded to the 100 block of Somerset Avenue for a vehicle theft in progress. A witness observed multiple people leaving the area in a silver car.

Officers later located the vehicle on Maryland Avenue. When the driver saw the police, he accelerated at a high speed.

Prior to the vehicle taking off, one person ran from the car.

Officers initiated a vehicle pursuit to Woods Road and Route 16 where the vehicle was involved in a crash. Two people then ran off from the car.

During a search one 15-year-old male from Easton was arrested and taken to hospital to be treated for injuries from the crash. Officers eventually found the second person involved, a 15-year-old male from Cambridge, in the 800 block of Hubbard Streat. He was arrested but later released to family.

Both teenagers have been charged with Motor Vehicle Unlawful Taking, Theft $1,500 to Under $25,000, Rogue and Vagabond and Malicious Destruction of Property.

The 15-year-old from Easton is also facing charges for the vehicle pursuit, including reckless driving.
