Annual Random Acts of Kindness Week Returns Feb. 14
Salisbury, Md. – Random acts of kindness can be found anywhere, at any time, but in Salisbury, KindSBY’s Random Acts of Kindness Week begins on February 14 and Random Acts of Kindness Day falls on February 17.
“That entire week we will be out in the community spreading joy and kindness, to lift the spirits of those in our community,” KindSBY Executive Director and Secretary of Kindness Heather Brooks said.
Brooks said KindSBY will partner with local schools and childcare centers to encourage kids to create art and share it with nursing homes and senior facilities. KindSBY will also deliver food to shelters and surprise some emergency room nurses with kindness. But there’s one project, the Tree of Kindness, that Brooks is particularly excited about.
“That’s going to be at the Paul Sarbanes Wicomico County Library branch,” she said. “It’s where community members can come in and take and write their note of hope or encouragement or kindness on a heart and help build this beautiful tree.”
Students and kids can also be kind. Brooks said there will be a new club starting at Salisbury University and a Kindness Club at Parkside High School. Though KindSBY will be doing plenty of work this week, they want to encourage people to join in on the action and think of ways to be kind, big or small. One way to share kindness throughout the community, Brooks says, is to donate.
“KindSBY only exists because of the kindness of our donors,” she said. “So, becoming one of our donors and contributing to our campaign is our first way. Secondly, just get involved and spread kindness wherever you are.”
Brooks said it doesn’t take a lot to spread kindness.
“It just takes a little bit of planning and a little bit of compassion to do something for someone else,” she said.
Brooks said KindSBY would also like to encourage residents to organize their own kindness initiative.
“Work with your office, your organization, your church, your community, those that live in your neighborhood,” she said. “Plan your own kindness initiative and put that joy out into the world. That’s going to not only inspire those that see it, but experience it.”
