Aftermath in Salisbury after massive snow emergency
SALISBURY, Md. – The winter storm is over, but the aftermath has been a challenge for residents. Hunter Massey is a landscaper and explains what he did for most of the morning and afternoon during the snowfall.
“We’re just going around cleaning up everything. I know there are a lot of tree branches out, and people have lost power. I saw wires down, it’s pretty brutal out here.”
Massey, braved the cold and elements to shovel through the treacherous snowstorm on Delmarva. While the brunt of the weather might be over, the destruction left behind could take days to fix, according to Massey.
“I think the cleanup will take a little bit, we got to wait for the snow to melt, and then we got to go around and clean up all the sticks and fix the wires. I’m sure we have seen the trees are still falling down, so I think it’s not going to stop.”
Delmarva Power had as many as 100,000 people who experienced outages. Several residents called WMDT, and sent tips that several trees fell on streets and community members’ properties.
Nor Agha is the Co-Owner of the Deli at Pecan Square and his business was one of the few businesses open for service during the winter weather emergency.
“We got a lot of construction workers, a lot of workers plowing the streets, we get a lot of state highways, the county workers and city workers. We had a bunch of families who came in who don’t have electricity, so we have a place for them to charge their phones, get warm coffee, and get some food.”
He adds that his business will remain committed to the community.”We try to make it easier for them, convenient because they are in a rush and no one else is open, so we try our best to keep them happy.”
