Worcester County could see alcohol-to-go at special events

WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – Worcester County Commissioners discussing if attendees at special events should be allowed to carry alcoholic drinks outdoors.

This was a move previously done in Wicomico County with Senate Bill 798. It was directly made for Salisbury’s downtown Folk Festival.

Under the plan, cities and towns in Worcester County would be able to apply for permits for these special events.

Events like the Seafood Festival in Snow Hill and Berlin’s Oktoberfest.

Worcester County Tourism and Economic Development Director, Melanie Pursel, proposing the idea before the Commissioners at the recent meeting.

“We are asking permission to move forward with a similar bill for Worcester County, because this was a specific Wicomico County bill, we have the support of the towns, and I’d love Ivy and Kara to give their perspective, because they are hearing directly from the businesses on how it could benefit them, benefit increased tax revenue for the county, and allow for more economic development and better customer service.”

The County Commissioners unanimously approved the plan.
