Wicomico County Awarded Funds for Park Improvements
WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. — Wicomico County has approved $90,000 in funding for improvements at East Wicomico Little League Park, located within Winterplace Park in Salisbury.
It’s all part of the Program Open Space – Local Share Program, facilitated by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Director of Wicomico County Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Steve Miller said the investment will enhance the parks infrastructure and support youth athletics in Wicomico County.
“Primarily with this funding — it’s going to be a fence replacement project, so there’s four ball fields out there, and the fencing is rough shape in a lot of spots, so primarily I think this will be just for fencing,” Miller said.
Miller added that the department prioritizes the needs of those who visit the parks, especially for local tournaments. The funds must still be accepted by the Wicomico County Council, and a 10% local match must be made.
