Weather Tidbits: Snow Squalls
This edition of Weather Tidbits will be discussing snow squalls. Snow squalls are bands of snow that come through in a short duration of time, but can produce very heavy snow rates. Snow squalls are capable of intense bursts of snow and very gusty winds. Think of it as a strong line of thunderstorms. In this instance, instead of rain, it is snow. This can produce whiteout conditions at very short notice. Which can be responsible for car accidents on the roads. Rapidly deteriorating road conditions result from snow squalls. And again, it’s a short duration. Lasting under 2 hours to 30 minutes or so. So, they are short-lasting but can produce a really intense burst of snow and wind. It is important to be aware of snow squalls in vicinity of the area.
