TidalHealth Launches Neurology Residency Program
SALISBURY, Md. – In this week’s Health Beat, brought to you by TidalHealth, WMDT spoke with Dr. Stephen Falchek about TidalHealth’s upcoming neurology residency program.
Dr. Falchek, a pediatric neurologist and epileptic allergist, is also serving as the program director for the new residency. He told us about how the program alligns with TidalHealth’s commitment to medical education.
“One of the areas that is most highly [requested] for appointments, but that also has the fewest number of providers overall nationwide, is neurology,” Dr. Falchek said. “Founding this residency program is an effort to meet our mission statement of providing care for the communities that we serve.”
A residency program is a supervised clinical training period for new doctors that allows them to try out specializing in a particular field. Dr. Falchek equated the program to on-the-job training, and said that residents in the program will have gone through many years of academic education ahead of their roles.
“We have the ability to deliver a service line that can address any particular problem within the care of neurology within TidalHealth, so that people do not have to travel great distances to seek sub-specialty or expertise,” Dr. Falchek said, noting the potential impact of the upcoming program.
He also highlighted the benefits of TidalHealth’s Pediatric Development and Therapy Clinic, which recently opened in Nov. 2025. The clinic works to address autism concerns in children and continues through their adolescence, creating a seamless line of care Dr. Falchek hopes to emulate in his program.
“This constant training, teaching, feedback, questioning, [and] reviewing cases will really greatly advance the health care of the individuals who are within our community,” he concluded.
