SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury Fire Department responded to a fire at a senior apartment complex on Wednesday afternoon.

Fifteen firefighters responded to an apartment unit on Taft Court after the resident discovered a fire originating from a waste basket. Smoke alarms were present and activated on the property. Crews extinguished the fire in 10 minutes.

The total damage to the structure and its contents is estimated to be $6,000.

The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal determined the preliminary cause to be accidental, and the result of improperly discarding smoking materials.
