Pole Barn Fire in Dorchester Co. Kills Pet Dog

RHODESDALE, Md. – The Eldorado Volunteer Fire Department responded to a destructive pole barn fire in the early hours of Monday morning.

At 1:56 a.m. on Jan. 12, crews responded to the 5000 block of Galestown-Reliance Road after a passerby reported a structure fire. Forty firefighters battled the the blaze for one hour. 

The total damage sustained to the pole barn and its contents is estimated to be $200,000. While no injuries were reported, a pet dog perished in the fire. 

The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal determined that the fire originated in the void space between the roof and the interior ceiling of the barn. The fire was ruled accidental, caused by an unspecified electrical event of branch electrical circuits above the ceiling.
