Pocomoke City Police planning for upgrades

POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – Pocomoke City Police are seeking to upgrade their department’s assets. Police Chief Arthur Hancock spoke at the recent town council meeting with officials.

He spoke on several topics, including a crime report, new purchases, and the potential for a new phone application.

He presented the Mayor and Council with a proposal to purchase a fully outfitted 2021 White Dodge Charger. It would cost $25,000 and currently belongs to the Fruitland Police Department.

The Chief also talked about the idea of a new phone application. It is still conceptual, but the department uses the app to have push alerts, a tips section, police contacts, and a sex offender list. Chief Hancock explaining the capabilities.

“They specialize in first responder apps and webpages. Its the same thing Wicomico Sheriff uses, the Worcester Sheriff uses, and Salisbury City uses.”

According to Chief Hancock – if approved, the app would be ready in 12 weeks.

“If I don’t have much to hang my hat on, we made a lot of progress in the last 4 and a half years. 4 and a half years ago, we had many people who thought our police department was dead, and we are far from it.”

He is hoping to have new decals on the vehicle with qr codes that allow citizens to scan it, sending them directly to the app.
