Pocomoke boy’s basketball holds off Decatur to stay atop Bayside South
BERLIN, Md. – Pocomoke boy’s basketball held off Stephen Decatur 85-77 Tuesday night in Berlin.
The teams traded blows in the first quarter, with Pocomoke leading 18-17 after the first eight minutes of play. The Warriors created some separation in the second though, ahead 47-36 at half thanks in part to 10 second-quarter points from Lamarquis Douglas who finished with 21.
Decatur closed the gap in the third, trailing by five at 61-57 heading into the final period, and the Seahawks were able to draw even at several points throughout the fourth quarter, led by JP Purnell who scored 10 of his 31 in the fourth.
Pocomoke was able to close on the game on the strength of shooting 14-of-18 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Michael Ames went 8-for-8 from the stripe down the stretch to finish the game with 21 points for the Warriors.
