Neurosurgery at TidalHealth
SALISBURY, Md. – In this week’s Health Beat, brought to you by TidalHealth, WMDT spoke with Dr. Kofi Kessey, a neurosurgeon at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional.
Dr. Kessey spoke with us about what goes into the rapidly evolving field of neurosurgery. He says his department works to diagnose and treat disorders of the the brain and spine and its supporting structures.
“We now have higher level imaging studies that help us better define where tumors are located and help us plan the trajectories for surgeries,” Dr. Kessey says. “Be reassured that there are new techniques to actually treat these tumors in terms of the genetics.”
The strides made in tumor research are also leading to new developments in the field of aneurysms, leading to minimally invasive forms of treatment.
“I do general neurosurgery, meaning I do a little bit of everything. And for the most part, at TidalHealth, our practice is such that we treat patients with brain tumors and spine disorders,” Dr. Kessey tells us. “You have a collective of different physicians with different subspecialties focusing on just a single patient and their disease process for the appropriate treatment.”
If you are experiencing symptoms of back or head pain, reach out to your primary care physician who can refer you to a neurosurgical clinic.
