Lewes man arrested for DUI, drug and weapons charges

GEORGETOWN, Del. – The Georgetown Police Department has arrested a Lewes man on DUI, drug and weapons charges.

42-year-old Brian Govin is facing a number of charges in relation to the incident that led to his arrest.

On January 22, around 11:47 p.m., a Georgetown police officer spotted Govin’s vehicle traveling south on North Bedford Street without its headlights on.

During a traffic stop, the officer observed an open container of a suspected alcoholic beverage in plain view.

Further investigation determined Govin was driving under the influence of alcohol.

A computer search revealed that Mr. Govin has multiple prior DUI arrests and convictions.

Govin was also found in possession of marijuana, and a search of the vehicle revealed additional drugs, drug paraphernalia and a handgun.

Govin was charged with the following offenses:

• Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
• Possession, Purchase, Ownership, or Control of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited
• Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Firearm)
• Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol – 4th Offense (Felony)
• Possession of an Untraceable Firearm
• Possession or Consumption of a Controlled or Counterfeit Substance (Except Human Growth Hormone) Without a Prescription
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Marijuana Related) – Civil Violation
• Failure to Have Lights On When Required

He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $91,000 cash bail.
