Dorchester Co. Digging Out of the Snow Following Winter Storm
(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – While the winter storm is out of our area, the people of Dorchester County are trying to dig themselves out of the aftermath. As plenty of streets in Cambridge are dealing not only with packed snow, but the ice buried underneath.
Some have chosen to brave the cold on foot and struggle with the sidewalks, like Cambridge resident, Anna Gray.
She tells WMDT, “Yeah. I couldn’t get out. I have, like, three inches of ice on my windshield right now, but, it’s very difficult to move around.”
While others are concerned about ice overhead while they simply try to make a path to their cars.
“I almost didn’t realize that it was really, really icy, on my first time coming out this morning,” says Sophonria Dennis who was cleaning off her front porch.
While there hasn’t been a reported number of accidents in Dorchester County in the aftermath of the weekend storm, The icy conditions aren’t just affecting every day drivers and people on foot. First Responders are seeing impacts as well.
Cambridge Police Chief Justin Todd says, “…the officers responding to calls; It’s taking time to get there. It’s not it’s not an easy commute for anyone. Yes. The snow emergency routes, they’re working hard. The crews are out working hard, throwing salt, trying to get it cleaned up.”
“I was very scared. I thought I had to stop to look up there and see what was really going on, and I had to go. And not backed up, you know, and I was kind of like close to the pole…” says Sophonria.
The conditions have been so bad, the City of Cambridge has rescheduled their City Council meeting from Monday night, and the Dorchester County Public Schools have announced closure for all schools Tuesday.
