City of Salisbury to revamp their advisory group operations in coming weeks
SALISBURY, Md. — The City of Salisbury is revamping the way its advisory groups operate. WMDT spoke with officials to learn what this change means for the city.
Mayor Randy Taylor said the goal of refining these advisory committees is to improve communication and implement a social media policy.
“I think the committees are supposed to be a resource for the mayor’s office, making recommendations, and then, as a group, as an administration, we will come forward with any policy changes, if necessary,” Taylor said.
Taylor emphasized that the aim is to ensure that the city’s committees work more cohesively and project a united front.
“We don’t want to appear divided or at odds with each other when we’re really not. It’s about clearing the air and working together toward common goals,” he said.
He noted that a previous incident involving crosswalks prompted the decision to overhaul the advisory program.
“There was a moment when someone spoke on behalf of the committee, and I think they misspoke,” Taylor said. “We realized we probably need a policy in place to avoid that in the future.”
Over the coming weeks, the mayor will meet with the advisory groups to discuss how to implement the new policies.
“Part of what we didn’t do well was properly onboard these groups that are investing their time and passion to bring their interests to the administration,” Taylor said. “This is an attempt to better engage with them and get a better result.”
