Cambridge Primary Care Nurse Practitioners Talk about MY Pantry Six Months In

(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – In Cambridge, a pair of nurses are giving back to their community, and helping residents facing food insecurity.
The idea came together in July of 2025 when Marina Miller and Yvonne Chen of the Shariff Medical Group wanted to help those struggling to put food on the table. So the two started a project called MY Pantry.
Marina tells WMDT, “For them to be able to come over here to get the best care and then to be able to come up here and to take them home, something that can be useful and save them money for that week…”
“A lot of them would tell me I my funding did not last and I only end this week. I don’t know where I’m going to get dinner. I have no food. I have been eating peanut butter jelly sandwich for a whole week,” says Yvonne.
Those facing food insecurity in Cambridge were in need of a resource like MY Pantry, and Marina says they wanted to make sure people didn’t have to choose between food and health care.
It’s one of the principles of the Shariff Medical Group.
Dr. Mahmoot Shariff says, “We take great pride in the fact that we have never, never refused anybody a lack of care because of lack of funds. We do not believe in that.”
And since launching, they’ve helped over 400 people.
“It is very, very important that they can come and they can find that they don’t have to spend so much money, even if they have to go back to the grocery,” says Marina.
And they’re hoping to help even more.
If you’re interested in donating food to MY Pantry, you can donate either food or money at their website.
