Cambridge Man Arrested After Trashing Apartment, Assaulting Officers

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – The Cambridge Police Department (CPD) arrested a man in the early hours of Wednesday morning on assault and drug charges.

Police arrested 59-year-old Jessie Gibbons Jr. of Cambridge was charged with two counts of second degree assault, malicious destruction of property, disorderly conduct, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance and related paraphernalia. He is being held at the Dorchester County Department of Corrections without bond.

At 12:51 a.m. on Jan. 28, police responded to the Bradford House in the 700 block of Race Street after receiving a report of a subject acting disorderly and breaking items in an apartment. Upon officers’ arrival, they could hear a subject yelling from approximately 50-70 yards away and observed that several other tenants had exited their apartments to see what was going on. Officers approached the apartment in question and could hear a female yelling for help.

Officers attempted to enter the apartment and were met by Gibbons, who threw himself against the door in an attempt to shut it on the officers. Gibbons eventually came out into the hallway where he was still acting disorderly. Police say he proceeded to assault two officers by striking them in the legs.

Gibbons was placed under arrest without further incident. During a search of his person, Gibbons was found to be in possession of an unspecified amount of crack cocaine. Officers spoke with the female tenant who reported that Gibbons began acting strange before beginning to throw items around the apartment. They located a broken chair, bookshelf, and several smaller items were damaged.

Gibbons was transported to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center for medical precautions prior to being transported to CPD for processing.
