CAMBRIDGE, Md. – The Rescue Fire Company was dispatched to a residential structure fire in the early hours of Monday morning.

At 2:08 a.m. on Jan. 12, crews responded to the 1300 block of Stone Boundary Road after a woman in the house discovered and reported a fire in her dining room. The Cambridge Police Department also responded to the scene, and officers were able to help the woman escape the house with her dog through the bedroom window. A pet cat was later located alive in the home by Deputy State Fire Marshals and reunited with the family.

Thirty-five firefighters battled the blaze for 25 minutes before successfully extinguishing it. The total damage sustained to the home and its contents is estimated to be $100,000.

The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal ruled that the fire was accidental in nature, and caused by lightweight combustibles being too close to a baseboard heater.
