Town of Ocean City celebrates 150th anniversary with gala ceremony
OCEAN CITY, Md. – A big day for the historic resort town. The Town of Ocean City is celebrating its 150th anniversary at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center.
Residents were greeted by rep carpet and champagne. There were breakout rooms filled with Ocean City history. The rooms were complimented by music, lite bites, and more.
The event had an open buffet, and a performance by Cherry Crush in the Grand Ballroom.
Ocean City, Director of Tourism and Business Development, Tom Perlozzo, said the event will bring areas from all together.
“Ocean City is kind of a hub in a way. We love Berlin, we love Snow Hill, we love Pocomoke. When we win, we all win,” said Perlozzo.”We’re bringing together 100 and 150 years of history and memory into one event.”
At 9:30 p.m., an anniversary presentation will take place, presented by Mayor Rick Meehan, and the cutting of the 150th anniversary cake. At 10 p.m., a grand finale drone show tribute at the bayside window.
Perlozzo calling the community engagement his favorite part of the event.
“You know, we’ve had great participation, and community engagement is extremely important to the tourism department,” said Perlozzo. “Again, the 150th, and obviously all the events we have year-round, is just a little nugget for where we are tonight.”
All proceeds will go to the “Stop Offshore Wind Project”
