Salisbury Accepts Funding for North Prong Park Project

SALISBURY, Md. — The City of Salisbury is making strides toward a years-long park development project.

At a meeting Monday, the Salisbury City Council voted to accept grant funds awarded by the Department of Natural Resources for the city’s North Prong Park project. The funds come from the department’s Local Parks and Playgrounds Infrastructure grant.

Mayor Randy Taylor said the award will help fund ongoing redevelopment efforts along the north prong of the Wicomico River.

“The North Prong Project has been around for a long time, and we’re finally moving to the latter stages of having the dollars we need to take it to the next level. What you’ll see, hopefully, over the winter and early spring is the LPPI money, which we just took in, and will allow us to tear down all the existing structures, create the site, and prep it for mitigation,” Taylor said.

The park sits on Lake Street, between Route 50 and W. Isabella Street. The site has been under discussion for potential redevelopment for more than a decade.
