Perdue family donates $1 million to new Salisbury library

Salisbury, Md. – On Wednesday, Wicomico Public Libraries held a special event to celebrate the latest donation to the new library in Salisbury on Schumaker Pond by the Perdue Family and the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation.

The money benefits the Friends Foundation of Wicomico Public Library capital campaign. Seth Hershberger, executive director of Wicomico Public Library, said the $1 million was a capstone donation that represented a key milestone towards the development of the revamped library.

“I’m most excited that Wicomico will have a library that is one of the most beautiful in the entire state and can really be the pride of the community and represents us well,” he told WMDT in an interview. “I’m so thankful to the Purdue family and for the foundation that they recognize that vision and the importance of public libraries for our community.”

The event featured remarks from representatives from the Perdue family, including Perdue Farms Chairman Jim Perdue, Maryland State Senator Mary Beth Carozza and Wicomico County Council President John Cannon, among others.
