Man Crashes Car; Dies of Electrocution

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – The Cambridge Police Department is investigating a car accident that killed one on Monday evening.

At 7:45 p.m. on Dec. 8, police responded to the 600 block of Locust Street in reference to a car crash into a structure. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a utility pole split in half in the middle of the street with hanging wires. They also located and a reddish pick-up truck that had crashed into a front porch.

Police located an adult man lying on the sidewalk unresponsive, approximately 25 feet away from the crash. He was later identified as 44-year-old Armond Hayward III of Cambridge. Police say there were downed, energized electrical wires around Hayward when he was found. He was pronounced dead at the scene due to electrocution.

Delmarva Power also responded to the scene to assist with the downed utility pole.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
