Man Committed on Million Dollar Bond after Attempted Murder

Shane Windell

LEWES, Del. – The Delaware State Police have arrested a Lewes man for attempted murder and related charges after they say he seriously harmed a woman and himself.

On Saturday, Dec. 13 at 3:10 a.m., troopers responded to a residence on the 33000 block of Tidal Way for a welfare check. When they arrived, they located a woman suffering from life-threatening physical injuries and a man, identified as 31-year-old Shane Windell, with serious lacerations. Troopers provided medical care until EMS were able to arrive and transport the injured individuals to an area hospital.

Authorities determined that during an argument, Windell, repeatedly assaulted the woman and prevented her from leaving. It was learned that during the incident, Windell caused serious injuries to himself.

While being treated for his injuries, Windell was found to be in violation of his probation. On Monday, Dec. 15, he was released from the hospital and charged with first degree attempted murder, first degree kidnapping, strangulation or suffocation, and terroristic threatening. Windell was arraigned and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $1,041,000 cash bond.

Authorities are continuing to investigate this incident. Detectives are asking anyone with relevant information to contact Detective L. Coleman at (302) 752-3813. Information may also be provided by sending a private Facebook message to the Delaware State Police or contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
