Hurlock Swears in New Mayor, Council Members

The Race For Mayor

(HURLOCK, Md) – Hurlock’s Town Council chamber was packed Monday night, as the community watched Mayor, Earl Murphy be sworn in to his new role.

And there’s excitement about what this means for the town moving forward. With some of the larger matters being discussed in the council meeting later this month.

“…It’s amazing to see all the fun and joy that everybody’s here a part of. I’m looking forward to all the ideas that have already been coming to me and implementing them into actions that they want to see,” says Mayor Murphy.

Murphy in the mayor’s seat isn’t the only change to Hurlock. Jeff Smith was sworn in as the new Councilman at Large. He’s echoing the sentiment that it’s time for the town to grow.

Jeff tells WMDT, “A lot of towns got a lot of growing, needs a lot of help. A lot of people in town need help. And I just like hearing that they help. That word comes out a lot with me but you hit the ground running. This is going to be awesome.”

Two returning council members took the oath for another term, including District 2’s Bonnie Franz.

She’s served on the Hurlock council for 12 years, and she’s excited to serve four more. This comes with the renewed sense of optimism in town.

“I hope that they come. Back to the meetings and bring some ideas for them. And we’re trying to get a new grocery store here, some more companies coming,” says Bonnie.

That first Hurlock Town Council Meeting will be next Monday, December 8th at 6 P.M.
