Giving Tuesday is here and local organizations need your help
SALISBURY, Md. – Local organizations in Wicomico County are calling on the community for donations this Giving Tuesday to support their year-round efforts.
Holidays are often a time for giving, and Giving Tuesday provides an opportunity to support local initiatives.
MAC Inc. Area Agency on Aging serves more than 10,000 seniors through over 30 programs. One of its largest programs is Meals on Wheels, which delivers meals to seniors’ homes. The agency also offers Meals on Wheels for Pets, providing pet food for seniors’ animals.
Nick Cranford, MAC Inc. Community Relations and Development Coordinator, said, “We’re also offering workshops and classes to educate older adults about health, aging, and Medicare Open Enrollment. Our experts help seniors navigate health insurance options and choose the best plans for their needs.”
The United Way Lower Eastern Shore is also seeking donations for its Secret Santa-style program, which helps local children. The United Way partners with local schools to gather wish lists from children in need. Volunteers then shop, wrap, and deliver gifts along with breakfast baskets for Christmas morning.
“We sponsored 126 children last year, and the need continues to grow each year,” said Ryan Jackson, Community Outreach Coordinator for the United Way Lower Eastern Shore. “It’s about giving families one less thing to worry about, especially those facing hardship.”
MAC Inc. is asking for donations of blankets, socks, clothing, snacks, coloring books, and crossword puzzles by Friday. Financial donations are also welcomed by both MAC Inc. and the United Way.
