NEWARK, Del. — Funeral arrangements have been announced for a Delaware State Police corporal who was shot and killed while working an overtime assignment at a Division of Motor Vehicles office earlier this week, authorities said.

Corporal Grade One Matthew T. “Ty” Snook, a 10-year veteran of the Delaware State Police, was fatally shot Dec. 23 at a DMV facility near Wilmington when a man entered the building and opened fire, state police said. Snook, 34, pushed a DMV employee out of harm’s way after being shot and urged others to run before succumbing to his injuries, officials said.

Services to honor Snook’s life and service are scheduled for Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, at the University of Delaware Bob Carpenter Center in Newark. Public visitation will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a pass and review by uniformed emergency personnel and a memorial service. Final honors will be presented outside the center, with all ceremonial events expected to conclude by mid-afternoon. Interment will be private.

Delaware Gov. Matt Meyer and state police leadership have praised Snook’s bravery and dedication to duty. Snook is survived by his wife and their 1-year-old daughter.

The suspected gunman, identified by police as 44-year-old Rahman Rose of Wilmington, was shot and killed by responding officers at the scene, authorities said. The shooting remains under investigation.

Law enforcement agencies and community members statewide have expressed condolences and support for the Snook family in the days since the shooting.
