Fruitland PD stresses home safety during holiday season
FRUITLAND, Md. – With the holiday season here, folks are getting ready to leave town and embark on travel. But before you pack up and say bye bye to your home, the Fruitland Police Department wants to ensure you know your home safety.
Sargent Butch Mills said you can protect your residence and ward off potential invaders by making sure all of the doors and windows are locked, leaving at least one light on in the house, and making sure valuables are out of sight, because many home invasions are crimes of opportunity.
“Everything’s so busy, even in the cyber world. The thieves are after us in the cyber world, and even here on the streets at times,” Sgt. Mills said. “It’s a lot of opportunity for crimes to be committed because people are moving with money, with gifts, with valuables, so when we’re out in this time of season, it’s just kind of easier for them to blend in, for them to target us.”
If you live in Fruitland, Sgt. Mills said you can request home patrol while you’re away. To submit a request, just fill out a form at the police department.
