Fruitland Giving Tree fundraiser

FRUITLAND, Md. — The City of Fruitland is holding its second annual Giving Tree fundraiser.

Thirty students from Wicomico County Public Schools have been nominated by their teachers based on need, and they have provided wish lists of gifts. Some are asking for headphones or speakers; others need socks or coats for the colder months. Each child provides clothing and shoe sizes and their favorite colors.

Volunteers can sign up to sponsor a child on the tree and provide a little extra cheer this holiday season. City officials said it is important for kids to be able to be kids for as long as they can, but they need the community’s help.

Dana Nash, human resources director for the City of Fruitland, said:

“I was hoping to have most of the tags gone by now because last year it was way quicker. But this year, I still have quite a few left. I got names of 30 kids, and there are still 24 left on the tree. And school ends next week before the Christmas holiday.”

Anything helps, whether it is bringing in gifts for the kids or donating gift cards to help cover the cheer. Officials are asking for donations to be turned in by the end of this week so they can send them out right away.
