Foodie Friday: Mallards at the Wharf

ONANCOCK, Va. – Located right in the water in Onancock Virginia, Mallards at the Wharf gives guests a fine dining experience without breaking the bank.

Owner Johnny Mo took WMDT’s Leila Weah on a food tour, beginning with their catch of the day.

Spectacular Sword Fish

“He said that he brought me out some sword fish, so we’re going to try out this sword fish plate,” Leila said. “This is such a beautifully put together and well thought out dish, I mean, it’s seared to perfection, and the combination of the cilantro oil, which I didn’t even know that existed, honestly, and the coconut milk, it doesn’t clash at all.”

Next stop, their fantastic crab cake.

Classy Crab Cake

“Johnny tells me this crab cake is their claim to fame,” Leila said. “They say they hold this sandwich together with love; they don’t overdo it with the Panko, they don’t do it with the additives, they put just the right amount, so it’s not crumbling as soon as you cut through it.”

“It’s not just your regular crab cake, this is your crab cake with class– It’s your classy crab cake,” Leila exclaimed.

Finally, the Mallards express dropped Leila off at coleslaw central.

Coleslaw Central

“This just looks like it’s going to taste delicious. I’m not even going to hold back, it’s big bites over here,” Leila said.

“This was a nice way to end the crab cake experience, it really was. I really like how he paired these two together, because the crab cake itself has those herbs, and now so does the coleslaw, and it pairs together very nicely; I liked both of these,” she added.
